Pack the picnics and best friends and enjoy an evening under the beautiful California sky with DTLA’s own ensemble-based CORNERSTONE THEATER COMPANY as they perform California: The Tempest – an adaptation for all Californians based on Shakespeare’s classic The Tempest.
Written by playwright Alison Carey, co-founder of CORNERSTONE THEATER COMPANY, and directed by Michael John Garcés, Artistic Director, California: The Tempest takes characters Prospero, her daughter Minerva, her servant Caliban and Californians from across the state on a journey to find the commonality in our diverse communities and a path to a healthy and inclusive future for all of California. California: The Tempest explores California’s state-of-mind as well as its challenges – from love, disaster, revenge, forgiveness, to earthquakes, drought, overdevelopment, food equity, state politics, and immigration policy.
California: The Tempest is a result of two years of work across 10 state-wide communities as well as interviews with 100s of Californians to engage participants in writing and acting in the play. Each performance reflects conversations occurring in each local area. The performances at Grand Park will include actors from the Downtown Los Angeles.
