This 3-day workshop focuses on embodied practices such as meditation, theater games, and street dance as community building tools, manifestation practices, and healing modalities. In the culminating event, all are welcome to perform in a flashmob and craft messaging of our collective vision for liberation.

Gina Young is a boundary-pushing playwright, director, and proud new member of the Kilroys. In Los Angeles, her work has been presented by The Hammer, REDCAT, Los Angeles Performance Practice/LAX Festival, USC’s Visions & Voices Series, The LA LGBT Center & the Women’s Center for Creative Work. She is a winner of the Humanitas/PLAY LA Prize, was a finalist for Center Theatre Group’s Richard E. Sherwood Award and is an Associate Producer of Directors Lab West. Her play, Femmes: A Tragedy is a winner of the Jane Chambers Award for Playwriting and is included in the Jane Chambers Anthology published by NoPassport Press this spring. In addition to her writing and directing work, Gina is the creator of SORORITY, a performance salon for new queer and feminist performance in Los Angeles. She is also the creator of Feminist Acting Class.

Every TUES, WED and THURS from 11am-2pm, come into the sunshine and enjoy everyone’s favorite time of the workday – the mighty lunch. Trucks will be parked on Olive Court (between Grand and Hill) and the Marketplace (between Spring and Broadway just across the street from City Hall, by the playground) with easy access for jurors, local employees, and all park users.

JURORS: Enjoy 10% off during your lunch break, simply show your juror badge. Discount good for both locations – Grand Park’s Marketplace and Olive Court.

Jennifer Cuevas is an entrepreneur and seasoned Communications Consultant, Producer and CEO of boutique communications agency, Jennifer Cuevas Consulting, LLC. She has led bilingual public relations and integrated marketing campaigns for an eclectic list of clients in the in arts and entertainment, non-profit and corporate industries for nearly two decades, as well as curated and managed dozens of tastemaking events. 

In addition to communications work, Cuevas enjoys the creative process of working with clients to produce branded still and video content; which she does with accomplished Photographer/Director, Pablo Aguilar, all while coaching her clients toward success. At the core of her work is a passion for producing, building and managing relationships, and connecting people and unique places, while documenting and sharing the experiences.

Native Angelino and Mount Saint Mary alum, Angie Sharma, is a seasoned accountant and financial planning expert with nearly 20 years of experience. Angie has worked with Arthur Andersen, a former “Big 5 Firm,” as well as with McGladrey and Pullen, the 5th largest accounting firm in the country.  She recently joined forces with her father to co-run his accounting firm,  Aaron P. Shamell Bell is a mother, community organizer, dancer/choreographer, and doctoral candidate in Culture and Performance at UCLA’s World Arts and Cultures/Dance department. Bell received her M.A. in Ethnic Studies from UC San Diego and B.A. with Honors in American Studies and Ethnicity specializing in African American Studies at the University of Southern California. Her work on what she calls, “street dance activism” situates street dance as grassroots political action from her perspectives as a scholar, dancer, and choreographer. Shamell’s research examines street dance movements in South Central Los Angeles through an ethnographic and performance studies lens. Her street dance experience includes featured roles in music videos, award shows, and tours. An original member of the #blacklivesmatter movement, beginning as a core organizer with Justice 4 Trayvon Martin Los Angeles (J4TMLA)/Black Lives Matter Los Angeles to what she now describes as an Arts & Culture liaison between several social justice organizations such as the BLM network, Blackout For Human Rights, The Undercommons at UCLA, among others. She also consults for social justice impact in the tv, film, and music industry with credits such as “community engagement consultant” for George Tillman Jr.’s film adaptation of Angie Thomas’ best selling book, “The Hate U Give”. Shamell is also a member of a think tank for actor, activist, and rapper Common’s philanthropic company, Think Common. She often teaches alongside her 7 year old son, Seijani, who focuses on meditation and mindfulness. They were featured in Common’s supergroup, August Greene’s promo campaign for their first single, “Be Optimistic.” She and her son also serve as Radical Joy Advisors to “Contra Tiempo,” a role created by the Urban Latin Dance Theater Company with a focus on healing, socially astute performance and community engagement.
