DANCE DTLA: DJ Nights @ Grand Park

A summer favorite now in its 13th year, The Music Center’s Dance DTLA is an evening of dance under the stars on most Friday nights in the summer months, from June – September, 2017.

Held on alternating Friday nights and curated by influential artists and tastemakers who give voice to Los Angeles’ dynamic and vibrant culture through music, dancing, arts and aesthetics, DJ Nights (9:00 p.m. – midnight) offers Angelenos the opportunity to dance the night away in Grand Park. Details for each night of the series will be announced in May, 2017.


The series includes:

  • June 23 – Dance Downtown: Cumbia / Grand Park
  • June 30 – DJ Nights, curated by Peanut Butter Wolf / Grand Park
  • July 7 – Dance Downtown: Line Dance & Two-Step / Grand Park

  • July 21 – Dance Downtown: Bollywood / Grand Park
  • July 28 – DJ Nights, curated by Valida / Grand Park

4TH OF JULY BLOCK PARTY @ Grand Park + The Music Center

LOS ANGELES! #GO4THDTLA. Grand Park and The Music Center are where to celebrate together with music, food, and an incredible fireworks display launched from the civic center skyline. Grab the best friends, the whole family, and main squeezes and enjoy a bit of togetherness under the beautiful Angeleno sky. **Safety for everyone is número uno. Check back soon for more info on entrances, prohibited items, parking, etc.**


STREET CLOSURE & PARKING INFO: Details on scheduled event street closures recommended parking can be viewed on the map below or in the 4th of July Block Party Community Letter.

Note: The Music Center lot (Lot 14) will not be accessible after 8PM through approx. 10PM. Lot 10 underneath Grand Park will not be accessible due to street closures.


GETTING THROUGH BAG CHECK: All bags will be checked upon entry to event space.

ITEMS PROHIBITED:

Bags and backpacks measuring larger than standard backpack size (16.75 inches x 13 inches x 8.5 inches), coolers, chairs, outside alcoholic beverages, sealed or open beverage bottles with liquid including water (fountains and water for purchase will be available), selfie sticks, glass, smartboards, projection devices, narcotics, tents, firecrackers, explosives, sparklers, firearms/weapons, identity-covering costumes, confetti cannons, generators, drones, printed signage measuring larger than 8.5 inches b x 11 inches, props, flag poles, handheld umbrellas and sticks, public intoxication, rollerblading, skateboarding, smoking, vaping, unauthorized vending, unleashed animals, smart boarding, outside solicitation, staking objects to ground, drone operation, amplified noise and bicycles (bicycles may be parked outside of event at 2nd and Hill streets).

ITEMS ALLOWED:  Snacks, food, sealed juice boxes, small bags, strollers, empty reusable non-glass water containers.


FOOD + DRINK :

PICNICS/OUTSIDE FOOD is welcome in totes and backpacks – NO COOLERS. SIZE OF BAGS AND BACKPACKS/TOTES must be standard backpack size or smaller (16.75 inches x 13 inches x 8.5 inches). NO OUTSIDE BEVERAGES including juice and soda (sealed juice boxes are the only exception). ONLY EMPTY (non glass) WATER BOTTLES allowed. PARK WATER FOUNTAINS and WATER FOR PURCHASE BOOTHS will be available in the event space. FOOD VENDORS BOOTHS will be available throughout event space. This is and alcohol-free event, NO ALCOHOL permitted.

8PM – 9:30PM / DJ Jedi (Legendary Hip-Hop selector takes you up to Fireworks time)

BIKE PARKING: Bike valet available at 2nd and Hill St. FREE

METRO RECOMMENDATION: Take Metro Red/Purple lines to CIVIC CENTER/GRAND PARK STATION (use 1st St exit; Temple St exit is only open for ADA/elevator access). Gold Line to UNION STATION or LITTLE TOKYO/ARTS DISTRICT STATION, then 7-12 min walk towards The Music Center.

A summer favorite now in its 13th year, The Music Center’s Dance DTLA is an evening of dance under the stars on most Friday nights in the summer months, from June – September, 2017. Hosted this year entirely in Grand Park, the series features Dance Downtown (7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.), every other Friday night, where participants can learn new dance moves in a judgment free zone with a different dance genre at each event. From Cumbia to Disco and Line Dancing, Dance Downtown welcomes anyone who loves to dance to learn some new moves in the heart of Los Angeles’ civic center. The Music Center’s Dance DTLA events will be held at various locations throughout Grand Park.


The series includes:

  • June 23 – Dance Downtown: Cumbia / Grand Park

BOOTCAMP @ Grand Park's Event Lawn (between Broadway and Spring)

All summer long, Grand Park visitors can explore the entire park and get a free workout at the same time at Grand Park’s Bootcamp. Open to everyone and all fitness levels, this free series is a fun way to connect with others and make an end-of-day workout accessible and fun.

Boot camp sessions are held on Grand Park’s Event Lawn (between Spring St. and N Broadway) every TUES beginning JUNE 6 through SEPT 26.

Kristi Lomax

Kristi Lomax is originally from New York, but now calls Los Angeles home. She’s a driving force in the soulful sound of the Los Angeles underground, as host of the weekly music program, One Track Mind, heard on progressive radio station KPFK. A champion of house music, Kristi keeps listeners on point with the latest dance records, artists interviews, and guest mixes.

Thee Mike B

LA native Thee Mike B has been entrenched in underground music, on both coasts, for decades. In 2011, he was awarded “Best Club DJ” by Los Angeles Magazine.

As a founding member of the legendary Banana Split party, alongside DJ AM and Steve Aoki, he is often credited as a driving force behind bringing new electronic music back to the LA club world.

Lars Behrenroth 

From his early days DJing at a local dance school in Germany to headlining a festivals, 30 years later, Lars Behrenroth has been moving dance floors all over the world. Lars has developed his production skills over the past 19 years to the point where he has accumulated an impressive discography over a variety of labels including Freerange, Compost, Sonar Kollektiv, Liebe*Detail etc.

Mark de Clive-Lowe

Musical polymath Mark de Clive-Lowe seems an impossibility at first sight – juggling beats, synths, live remixing all on-the-fly, brought to life with a casual ease that’s mind-boggling. In his formative London years, the half-Japanese New Zealander helped evolve broken beat, establishing himself as an undeniable voice in progressive electronic music.
